FMCSA Re-Issues NRII Waiver to Support Continued Implementation

FMCSA has re-issued the temporary NRII waiver to further support implementation. The new waiver is effective October 13, 2025, through January 10, 2026, and allows interstate CDL/CLP holders and motor carriers to rely on the driver’s paper Medical Examiner’s Certificate (MEC). This modification continues to provide up to 60 days after issuance for reliance on the paper MEC. The waiver applies even in states that are NRII-compliant.

This waiver was re-issued to maintain support for both drivers and enforcement personnel and to help prevent unnecessary downgrades or compliance issues that may occur due to transmission delays by medical examiners or processing delays at the state level.

You can review the full notice here.

Thank you for your continued efforts to support NRII implementation.

Will's Safety Message

Montana winter roads don’t mess around, and neither do professional drivers. From black ice to whiteout conditions, winter driving is where skill runs with preparation.

Before you roll, inspect your rig like your paycheck depends on it. Check tires for proper tread and inflation, confirm your chains are in good shape, and make sure your lights are clear of ice and snow. Keep washer fluid topped off and a scraper/brush handy, because clear vision saves lives.

Out on the road, slow down before the conditions make you. Double your following distance, watch for shaded areas that hide ice, and never trust what “looks wet”. Communicate early and often with dispatch, letting them know what is going on.

So grab that thermos, gear up your truck, and show winter who really runs these roads.

Stay Safe Everybody!
