California Postpones Periodic Smog Test Check for Trucks

The California Air Resources Board has delayed the first periodic testing deadline for the Clean Truck Check Program to Jan. 1, 2025.

However, this does not delay requirements to register and pay fees for 2023. The rollout of DMV registration holds for non-compliance is beginning to ramp up, notes the California Trucking Association.

Fleets must also still plan to pay fees for 2024, which will be due in the later half of this year.

Late last year, CARB extended the Clean Truck Check reporting deadline to the end of January 2024. Read More

How Trucking is Fighting Fuel Card Fraud — And What You Can Do

Fraudsters are increasingly targeting commercial fuel cards and fueling transactions. Whether driven by growth in the freight market during the Covid-19 pandemic providing more targets and more fueling opportunities or the high price of diesel offering a more lucrative theft opportunity, fuel card fraud attempts have risen drastically.

It seems destined to stay at high levels unless companies fight back. They are doing so, in several ways.

How Bad is the Fuel Card Fraud Problem in Trucking?

Milo Dubak, CEO of Chicago-based fleet Pure Freight Lines, says fuel fraud has always been out there, but it increased tremendously in recent years.

Part 2 in Our Series on Workers Compensation Insurance Includes How Do You File a Workers’ Comp Claim in Montana.

Your employees should report on-the-job injuries or illnesses right away to their:

  • Supervisor

  • Insurer

  • Employer

To receive workers’ compensation, they must report the injury within 30 days of the incident. The notice should include the time and place of injury and details of the injury itself. After the insurance company receives the first report of injury, the insurer has 30 days to respond to the claim with either an approval or denial. If one of your employees needs a First Report of Injury (FROI) form, they can find it at the Montana Department of Labor and Industry’s website. It’s also important to note that there are fee schedules for Montana workers’ compensation benefits. This schedule outlines the maximum amount an insurance company can charge for medical treatment for your employee’s injury.
