Lame Deer Closure Update

The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and Prince, Inc. are continuing work on the Lame Deer - East project.

US 212 is now reopened to all traffic between Crow Agency and Broadus, and the rest of the project will be constructed under traffic control. Though US 212 is reopened, the project area will be under construction for several months and commercial traffic is encouraged to use alternate routes for the duration of construction to avoid long delays.

Travelers between Lame Deer and Ashland should expect long delays and single-lane traffic controlled by pilot cars and flaggers with reduced speeds. MDT and Prince, Inc. will ensure multiple pilot cars are active to keep traffic queues short and maintain traffic flow.

When traveling during construction season, watch for the “cone zone” and workers on the highway. These workers spend their days working a short distance from fast-moving vehicles, and while they make every effort to work safely, they count on you to pay attention, slow down, and be careful as you pass through a work zone.

Will's Safety Message

One of my favorite holidays is approaching, with explosives and patriotism going strong! Here is some good advice from the Mayo Clinic on firework safety:

Every year, thousands of people are admitted into emergency departments across the country because of injuries caused by fireworks.

"We'll see injuries to fingers or the whole hand. Another common injury is burns. And sometimes we'll see eye injuries because of the sparks that fly into the eye," says Dr. Neha Raukar, a Mayo Clinic emergency medicine physician.

If consumer fireworks are legal where you live, here are a few tips from the National Safety Council:

  • Never allow young children to handle fireworks.

  • Always have adult supervision.

  • Wear protective eyewear.

  • Never hold lighted fireworks in your hands.

  • Don't point or throw fireworks at another person.

  • Only light one firework at a time.

  • Watch them from a safe distance.

"If you're going to have some fireworks, don't be drinking at the same time. Have the person who is not drinking be the one to light the fireworks. Stay away from them once you light them, and just be aware of your surroundings," says Dr. Raukar. "I don't want to meet you here in the emergency department."

Stay Safe Everybody!

Safety isn’t an attitude, it’s a lifestyle
