Rocky Mountain Supply was formed as the result of the merger of Gallatin Farmers Company based in Belgrade, MT and Coop Supply based in Dillon, MT . The two companies merged in 1999 to form a new company called Rocky Mountain Supply, Inc. Gallatin Farmers Company and Coop Supply of Dillon both were formed in the 1930's by area farmers to buy gasoline and diesel fuel at a lower cost for its members. Since then and through the merger of the two cooperatives, Rocky Mountain Supply has become a diversified, locally-owned cooperative governed by a board of directors consisting of seven members who are agricultural producers representing the communities we serve. We offer a full line of energy products such as gasoline, diesel fuel, and lubricants as well as a full line of crop nutrient and crop protection products, seed, field application of crop nutrients, hardware, livestock equipment, animal health products, feed supplements, pet supplies, western wear clothing and boots, sporting goods, convenience store items and other products and services too numerous to mention. In 2001, Rocky Mountain Supply formed a joint venture with rural electric cooperative Vigilante Electric based in Dillon, MT for the purpose of serving members and customers with propane and related services. This joint venture is called Montana Energy Alliance. Incorporated November 1, 1999, Rocky Mountain Supply has profitably served its members and customer of southwest Montana, sharing the success of the cooperative through its patronage dividends returned to members each year along with the reinvestment of improved facilities and equipment to better serve members and customers in the future. We will look to continue to expand our presence throughout southwest Montana both geographically as well as offering more products and services to its members and customers.

FMCSA Speed Limiter Notice

ATA sent out the following message last week. Please let Duane dwilliams@mttrucking.org know if you have any comments on this. Moments ago, FMCSA announced a Notice of Intent (NOI) seeking to mandate speed limiting devices on commercial motor vehicles. ATA staff is currently reviewing the details of this NOI, and our initial review has found that FMCSA is not yet defining a maximum speed, but is soliciting comments to a specific set of questions, and evaluating data on speed limiting devices to determine a maximum speed setting. The NOI will be published in the Federal Register and can be found here. We will provide further details, including summary documents as soon as staff completes an in-depth review. It is important to note that this is not a final rule. As such, ATA staff will be providing comments in response to the NOI in time for the due date, 30 days after publication in the Federal Register. ATA’s Safety Policy Committee will be engaged in this process as we develop our response, and encourage the agency to adopt a final rule that closely mirrors ATA policy on speed governing devices. The Agency has also published a list of FAQs, specific to this NOI, which can be found here. If you have any questions, please contact me. Sincerely, Dan Horvath Vice President, Safety Policy

Mike's Safety Tip

Summer Heat, is just around the corner. Seems like it was only yesterday we were talking about how to stay warm and safe from frostbite. Summer is on the horizon and that means we need to watch whenever the mercury rises above 80 degrees. When this happens, it's difficult for your body to maintain a temperature balance. This can result in heat fatigue, heat rash, vomiting, nausea, and deadly heat stroke. Keep yourself well hydrated and avoid complications of heat stress. Stay tuned for more next week. Thanks, and have a great week, Mike 406-274-8519
