MCM has addressed your concerns regarding drug and alcohol testing with an agreement signed with HireRight, a top-notch drug and alcohol-testing provider that is specifically focused on the trucking industry. MCM’s newest program, Advance On-Line will enable MCM members to access certified DOY and OSHA courses on-line at a discount to members. DRUG AND ALCOHOL TESTING
All CDL drivers are subject to drug and alcohol testing. MCM members are eligible to participate in the MCM's consortium. If you are not already a participant, call us at 406-442-6600 or e-mail a message or questions to mcm@mttrucking.org.
Part 382 - Controlled Substance and Alcohol Use & Testing
Five substances are the subject of DOT required drug testing. They are: PCP. Marijuana, Cocaine, Amphetamines, and Opiates. The Six reasons to test are:
Pre-Employment - Must be done prior to driver performing any safety sensitive function unless documentation is provided of enrollment in a certified testing program within the last 30 days and testing & results done within the last 6 months.
Random Selection - Performed at a rate of 50% annually of the available driver pool for controlled substances and 10% for alcohol. The testing rate for alcohol is subject to change after any year in which the positive testing rate in above 0.5%. The rate would then raise to 25%.
Post Accident - Must be performed in the instance of fatality or if driver is cited for accident in which there is an injury or a towed vehicle.
Reasonable Cause - When a supervisory employee observes behavior that may indicate an employee under the influence of alcohol or controlled substances.
Return To Duty - If the employer wants to give an employee who has tested positive a chance to return to work, a test must be performed.
Follow Up - If a driver with a positive test has returned to work, then follow up testing must be done. Time frame for follow up testing is up to 60 months and employer selects time and place.
Training Requirements are as follows:

Employers must disseminate to drivers, a packet of information including the company's policy and the effects and symptoms of abuse.

Supervisory employees must receive two hours of training on how to recognize the effects and symptoms of alcohol use and drug abuse
